|    Happy Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God D    |

From: theirony2013@gmail.com              January 1 is the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God in the       Catholic Church. While it primarily honors Mary, it is       also the Feast of the Circumcision of Jesus in some older       calendars. There isn’t a single saint assigned specifically       to this day other than Mary in her role as Mother of God.              If you want, I can also list some other saints whose feast days fall on       January 1.              Here are some other saints celebrated on January 1:               St. Basil the Great – Doctor of the Church, along with        St. Gregory Nazianzen; both are celebrated together in        the Eastern and some Western calendars.        St. Fanchea (Fanchea of Killeany) – Irish abbess.        St. Genovefa (Genevieve) – patron saint of Paris.        St. Serapia – virgin and martyr in Rome.        St. Elias (Elijah) – celebrated in Eastern calendars on Jan 1.        St. Macartan – Irish bishop, disciple of St. Patrick.        St. Abbo of Fleury – abbot and scholar.        St. Sylvester Gozzolini – Italian monk and founder of        the Sylvestrine order.              So January 1 blends a major feast with a number of individual saint       commemorations, depending on region or rite.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
