   We went out to dinner tonight. I invited Dan the Bagel   
   Man to join us. I knew he was busy, it being a Tuesday,   
   but it's January 6 so I told him it was in celebration   
   of the anniversary of the Jan 6 MAGA revolution...   
      
   Gotta poke the critters through the monkey bars, right?   
      
   Here's the thing:   
      
      
   So Dan thinks Venezuela is all about oil. Now, stupid   
   me in another Tim Walz moment, I try to explain reality   
   to him.   
      
   "They don't have a lot of oil," I explained to him.   
   "They have bitumen."   
      
   Nope. The media beamed the "Largest proven reserves"   
   lie into his skull and there's no budging it.   
      
   None.   
      
   Bitumen is not oil.   
      
   Bitumen is tar or pitch. And it's usually in   
   disarticulated chunks as it's found in Canada.

   "Tar sands" or "Oil sands."   
      
   The problem is that there's a MASSIVE energy overhead   
   in exploiting bitumen. It's so large, in fact, that many   
   in the past have argued that it requires more energy to   
   turn bitumen into a liquid fuel than we can get energy   
   out of it.   
      
   Yes, many claim that, if we used oil say, we'd need   
   more gallons of oil to covert the bitumen to oil than   
   we'd get back as oil.   
      
   True? Not true? In reality it's "Depends."   
      
   NOTE:  Everyone new about the Canadian deposits for at   
   least 100 years, but it just plain wasn't economically   
   plausible to exploit it except in very small amounts.   
      
   None of this registered with Dan the Bagel Man. Even   
   inviting him to just plain Google it.   
      
   Nope.   
      
   The media orders people to believe that Venezuela has   
   the largest proven oil reserves and people believe it.   
      
      
   FACT:  If Bitumen is oil than so is coal. Which means   
   that the United States has the largest proven reserves
