|    Zodiac killer was not the Steven?    |

From: jtem01@gmail.com              Well recent headlines insists that Marvin Margolis is the       Zodiac killer AND the murderer of the famous "Black       Dahlia" murder...              And at least one photograph of him does bear a rather       striking similarity to a police sketch of the Zodiac       killer...              And he can be connected to the Black Dahlia, having       dated her...              But I performed my customary 30-second Google search       (and EXHAUSTIVE 30 second Google search) and I found       absolutely nothing connecting him to a single Zodiac       victim.              So I'm ignoring it. Not dismissing it, just ignoring       it. There's nothing to connect him to the zodiac       killings except for one single coincidence: His photo       is very similar to a police sketch.              That's it.              So if this bores you then how about something else:              The zodiac murders would be solved already if the police       could have somehow known what we would be able to do in       the future, or even guessed at what kind of "Evidence"       might be collected...              You know, DNA.              So how do we -- right now -- figure out what's coming       in the future?              Imagine, if you will, the police investigating a crime       and they are completely stumped. WORSE, imagine it's a       zodiac style serial killer!              Picture a situation like the zodiac where nothing is       coming up. What do you save for that future tech that       will one day be invented? How do you handle and preserve       evidence with that future tech in mind?              This is JTEM so you know I've got an answer! After all,       how else can I impress you?              So this is how you do it: You sit down. You brainstorm.       You imagine what kind of evidence you WANT. You image       what kind of tools which do not exist but you wish they       did. THAT is probably going to be the future tech that'll       solve your case and THAT is what you need to keep in mind,       preserve your evidence to meet one day in the far future.              Now I don't know what law enforcement wishes for, when       they spend time wishing for tests/tools that don't yet       exists, but...              Gun powder residue: Maybe if the government required all       gun powder to include "Markers," some sort of chemical       residue that won't burn and thus identify the manufacturer       of the powder.              Guns stamping both the bullet and the casing?              I know, it would be impossible to give each one a unique       identifying number. But think of this: Even just three       letters presents 17576 combinations!              26 x 26 x 26              And even ONE SINGLE LETTER would be enough to exclude       25 out of every 26 guns looked at!              And we can't get away with gun registrations -- because       registering cars keeps them all off the roads so that'll       do the same with guns -- so gun TITLES!              Every gun made has a title. The gun changes hands, the       title is filled out, mailed in and the new one arrives.              This leaves you with record that tells you where & when       that gun left legal hands. Because all guns start out       legal, and then either the gun owner goes criminal, sells       or gifts it to a criminal or the criminal steals it. So       if they could identify where & when a gun left legal hands,       that might point to a suspect or even eliminate some!                     Okay. All of these won't work in a zodiac style scenario.       Because, you can't apply future changes, like stamping       bullets, to bullets fired in the past. We need some sort       of advancement that can be retroactively applied, like DNA.                                                                                                  --       https://jtem.tumblr.com/              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
