A literal rapture fails not because the
Earth is spherical, but because global
simultaneity does not exist. On a rotating
planet with time zones and no universal
“now” (per relativity), an event happening
everywhere at once cannot be a normal
   physical occurrence. To preserve literalism,
one must assume time itself is suspended,
which moves the rapture from a historical
event into symbolic or metaphysical territory.
