   > or people that he does not know?

He knows who they are, but what He's saying is that
he knows they never had a personal relationship with
Him. Therefore He never knew them.
   >
   > They certainly seem to know of him.

Apparently they will only know Him when they realize
they were wrong to not truly believe in Him before
the day of judgment arrives. Once they realize they
are actually with Him and about to be judged for
their lack of belief, of course they will be trying
to tell Him that they did all those things in His
   name.

Those are the kind of people who go to church on
Sunday, and then forget all about the Bible and
Jesus for the next six days. This is what the
Bible says about them, as I pointed out previously:

[quoting] "For such people are false apostles,
deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of
   Christ.

"And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as
an angel of light. It is not surprising, then,
if his servants also masquerade as servants
righteousness. Their end will be what their
actions deserve." [end quoting] 2 Corinthians 11:13-15
