I mentioned my love of history for a reason. It was a
hint. Though I agree with you that this guy is a total
sicko and needs to be locked up -- probably inside of
a mental ward. He didn't just rob graves for profit, it
   seems an obsession for him!

Anyway, archaeologists dig up graves all the time. This
includes CHRISTIAN graves! And the biggest difference in
my mind is what you said with:

"desecration of something that is important to the families
   of the departed."

It's very plausible that ALL the graves he robbed have
living family. It's extremely improbably that most of them
would not. So let's just play it safe and say that MOST of
the graves he desecrated have living relatives.

NOTE: It's not just the graves opened. Imagine a family
member coming in from L.A. and stopping by the parents
or grandparents grave, passing one opened and/or vandalized
grave after another. Even if their relative's grave is
untouched, their space, their surroundings have been
degraded even as their security has been cast in doubt.

   > Robbing is stealing. Stealing is wrong in any
   > context.

I agree that it's wrong but sometimes it's not. Archaeologist
do it all the time. But they are NOT treasure hunting and there
are no known relatives of the remains.
