From: jtem01@gmail.com              Now I have long complained about the lack of ay true       skepticism online.              True skepticism online is a lot like caffeine in 7-Up:              Never had it, never will.              And one "Manifestation" of the lack of REAL skepticism       online was how anyone who made any claim sounding the       least bit paranormal would immediately be met with       idiots barking: "Win da prize! Go win Randi's million!"              And that really sickened me for a couple of reason which       I would LOVE to get into but, that's not what this story       is about. It's about a false claim that JTEM was trolling.              So, to show up the false "Skeptics," though not a one of       them was ever going to see their error, I devised a       cunning plan.              Yes I did.              I concocted a "Paranormal ability" that literally could       not be tested. AND I CROSSPOSTED IT HERE!              My claim was that I could channel Nostradamus and get the       answer to any question people wanted. But the trick was       that you had to want the specific information and nothing       else. If you asked me for tonight's lottery numbers, for       example, that wouldn't work because you don't want the       numbers per so, you want the lottery jackpot -- the money.              YOU WANT TO WIN!              And, of course, if you asked me a question TO TEST ME       then it wasn't the answer you were after, not the answer       to the question asked, but the answer to a differen       question: "Is this guy for real?"              And, yes, I explained that if anyone broke the rules here,       asked a question meant to test me, for example, Nostradamus       would know and instead of giving you a direct answer would       give you some random, false answer...              So this wasn't trolling at all. This was a sincere attempt       at exposing the very disturbing fraud that had become       online skepticism and maybe provoking thought on HOW to       approach questions of the paranormal.              I had some really excellent points.              Nobody grasped a single one. Some "Gary Lesley" guy attacked       me immediately.... nothing changed... the fraud passing itself       off as online "Skepticism" remained fraud right up until usenet       died...                                                        --       https://jtem.tumblr.com/              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
