   Almost everyone who has received some schooling   
   learns basic arithmetic: addition, subtraction,   
   multiplication, and division. With global literacy   
   around 87%, this means roughly 6.8 billion people   
   likely know at least some arithmetic. By contrast,   
   the Bible is mainly known to Christians and Jews.   
   Christians make up about 33% of the world (~2.7   
   billion), and Jews about 15 million. Not all have   
   read or know it well, so the total familiar with the   
   Bible is under 3 billion. Clearly, more people know   
   basic arithmetic than the Bible.
