Or are you simply being negative?              How often are "Up & coming stars" in their 60s? Or 50s? Or       40s even? They're young! They're rising, not walking within       the sunset of their careers!              Yeah. We do get our share of older people and even "Old"       people at festivals. We even have an "Over 40" category so       people won't have to be judged by kids with maybe lots of       access to resources through school, or professionals in their       prime. But, as a rule, the newest, up & coming talents are       young talents. Period.              And, yes, the newest rock stars and actors are HEAVILY slanted       towards the young. Because people start out young, and most       of them, by the time they're 40, are going to become established       or settle into "A real job" to pay the bills, support a family.              That's how life works.              > Certainly such an obvious connection needs an       > explanation?              Clearly you're feeling old. Why else would you be scratching your       head wondering why the newest, freshest talent I can find wasn't       on the scene 30 years ago?              > Perhaps I have a block from being attracted to 'children'.       > Perhaps, as you say, it's just me being a prude. But to me       > it still seems very unnatural and makes me uncomfortable.              You're feeling old, maybe threatened by younger people. Clearly.              This kid is in his 20s. Technically he's not a kid at all!              And, honestly, why on earth would you think that the newest       talent being younger is unnatural?              You're not rational here. So, I ask: Are you feeling threatened       by youth? Because that's what it looks like from here.              The Hunter Nickless? We were the very first festival to look at       his diamond in the rough and see a filmmaker. And we told him,       our feedback was that he should be looking at filmmaking and not       just acting. And he did. And made a splash. No, not on his very       next film, or the one after that but, my God, he made a splash!       They traveled all over the world on that film...              THAT is where we want to be. It's where I want to be: Spotting       the talent before others do. Encouraging people to develop what       they've got.              Maybe you should consider trying THAT, with up & coming talent       in your field, instead of being angry & threatened.                                                        --       https://jtem.tumblr.com/              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
