XPost: alt.bible, alt.religion.christian.biblestudy, alt.religion.christianity       XPost: alt.christnet.bible              Friend james tries the jw vatican fairy story that the 'easter" feast day       in honor of Christ's resurrection has pagan origins and should not be       observed. Hee tells us he has done research to confirm that.              Let's look at the facts. The name "easter" is only used in a tiny number       languages of german origin, like english. It derives for the german name       for the season of spring. The name for a pagan godess is also related to       that season's name. Because easter happens in spring, by golly it has a       pagan origin. Or does it?              All the many other languages in europe, including the original languges of       wales and scotland and ireland use the greek for passovr for the feast       fday, some variation of "pascha" in all other languages.              Christ's resurrection was a passover related event in the NT and as       observed today. Of corurse passover always happens in spring, it must be a       pagan NT event also willy nilly, or so the jw vatican fairy story logic       would have us believe, no?              Of course the jw vatican fully embraces the names of days and months chosen       to honor pagan gods. A jw vatican meeting on thursday happens on 'thor's       day" a pagan god. So that makes that meeting a pagan event, no?              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
