   a cross.

      It was worn by Watchtower followers as a lapel pin, brooch or necklace   
   pendant in the same way Christians wear a cross as a symbol of their   
   devotion today.   
      
      
      Watchtower represented Jesus' death on a cross in Russell's 1914 motion   
   picture, The Photo Drama of Creation, slide 65.   
      
      It was not until well into the time of Rutherford that the anti-cross   
   teaching was developed.   
      
      Up until the October 1st 1931 edition, the cross and crown symbol was   
   included on The Watch Tower cover. This was removed from the cover of the   
   renamed   
      The Watchtower 1931 Oct 15 edition.
