   Their I agree. Before WW2 most clergy in Greece had to support themselves.   
   My uncle-in-law's dad served three parishes/villages on the back of a   
   donkey,then went back to farming on Monday. All his kids were born on the   
   farm fields, not at home. And this after a twenty year military career in the   
   navy.  He understood his parishioners and didn't pontificate from on   
   high. Now priests in Greece are all paid by the grubmint and they are lazy as   
   all get out. Recent studies show the lowest scoring college entrants become   
   clergy or teachers, because if they can't hack other studies, at least they   
   can claim a college degree. I recently moved from NYC to rural central New   
   York and most priests have day jobs. Some serve several parishes. I'm told   
   they are only allowed to prepare communion once a day, so they carry it from   
   the first to the other parishes.
