        If there aren't any obstacles, then there's neither a path   
   nor any need for one:  picture something like a smooth and   
   empty beach.  Conversely, a path and the need for one imply the   
   existence of obstacles:  picture a dense woods.  It gives a   
   way through them or, in a philosophy like Buddhism, a road away   
   from the world they occupy.
