An Idea in Buddhism or elsewhere?

Have come across this idea which i'm told exists somewhere in Buddhism,
that if you 'pursue' something then you create something of a
   'resistance' to it.

whereas if you don't actively pursue it; then it more likely comes to you.

Would anyone know the origin of this concept in Buddhism or elsewhere or
be able to explain this idea in some way? Thanks for any help.
