"Evelyn" quotes (an old post of)
   Richard Hayes:

   >There is it said that for every icchantika there is a
   >bodhisattva dedicated to bringing the icchantika to full realization of
   >the Dharma.
   ...
   >It is said that only an icchantika can recognize another icchantika.

From these two sentences (separated by only a few lines)
it appears to follow that either the "bodhisattva dedicated
to bringing" a given "icchantika to full realization of the
Dharma" lives that dedication without be able to "recognize"
the given icchantika, or else each "bodhisattva dedicated
to bringing" some "icchantika to full realization of the
Dharma" is (though a bodhisattva) also "another icchantika".

I am willing to entertain either alternative (or both), but
am even more willing to be entertained by any precis that
may be forthcoming of the (presumably well-hashed-out)
scholarly explanation or refutation of this apparent
   impasse. The more the merrier.
