   'Twas Fri, 24 Sep 2004 19:32:54 -0400 when all alt.sports.baseball stood
   in awe as gododgersgo uttered:

   >On Friday, 24 September 2004, DodgerBlue2131 (db2131@dodgers-dodgers-
   >mushroom.com) wrote the following:

   >:The Dodgers have such a problem player at this time. As should be
   >:obvious to anyone in Dodger Blue, I'm writing about Sean Green.

Nope. I didn't have a clue who you were talking about until you mentioned
   his name.

   >:To be sure, Green is a great player and a reasonably good person.
   >:However, he's hurting the Dodgers with this grandstanding nonsense about
   >:whether or not he should play during Yom Kippur.

You're right about the grandstanding. He should just say he's taking off
for Yom Kippur and be done with it.

   >:Of course he should play. He's under contract. If he doesn't play, the
   >:Dodgers should fine him. If you don't show up to work tomorrow, are you
   >:going to be paid for that day? Hell no, you're not.

Players take days off all the time. They go to spend time with a sick
mother, father, wife, or child. They go to funerals. I believe their pay
is docked for the games they miss. Green should be treated the same.

   >:The Dodgers didn't sign up for the kind of
   >:narrow-minded parochialism Green is espousing.

The Dodgers said they knew he planned to take off Yom Kippur. It may even
   be mentioned in his contract.

   >:If the Blue miss the post-season
   >:by one game, perhaps a class action suit against Green would drive home
   >:the point that his "faith" has no place in his decision whether or not
   >:to play.

If the Giants win the division and the Cubs win the wild card, and the
Dodgers are one game behind either, please sue him. I would like to see
how much money you can spend making an ass of yourself.

   >:Here's hoping Sean Green and his narrow-minded "faith" are traded in the
   >:off-season. The Dodgers just don't need this kind of headache.

You don't have truly observant Jews in professional sports, because no
team can afford to carry a player who won't work on Shabbas. However,
there have always been a few players who don't work Yom Kippur. Should
the Dodgers have dumped Sandy Kofax? Didn't Kofax undermine team
   chemistry?

The interesting thing in this case is that Green decided to observe the
fast, but play anyway. This meant he was in the lineup for the Friday
game. He's not playing today, because game time is 19 hours into the
fast, and there's no way he will be physically up to it.

   >You said it! I've got nothing against Jewish people.
   >
   >Having said that, Green's decision is selfish and hurts his team!

You have nothing against Jews as long as they don't do anything Jewish.

   >Hell with him!

Are you DB2131's sockpuppet, or are you another anti-Semite?
