   Goes with the territory.   
   Theologically speaking, literalists paint themselves into a very tight   
   corner. If every word is absolutely and literally true, then there is   
   far less wriggle room, much less scope for philosophical quibbling and   
   interpretation. Every typo and every badly translated word becomes a   
   huge obstacle. And every word being absolutely and literally true,   
   anyone with views or interpretations that differ even in the slightest   
   deviates from the absolute and literal truth of god, is a heretic.
