XPost: alt.politics.republicans, alt.fan.rush-limbaugh, sac.politics       XPost: talk.politics.guns       From: r62n@nynex.zib              Republican Spiro Cheriogotis has won the Mobile, Alabama mayoral race       over Democrat Barbara Drummond with just over 51%, succeeding Mayor       Sandy Stimpson. The contest gained national attention after former Vice       President Kamala Harris praised Drummond as a rising figure in the       Democratic party. Cheriogotis was endorsed by Mayors Stimpson and Dow       and out-raised Drummond, consolidating local support and financial       advantage.              Drummond said, "So grateful to Vice President Kamala Harris for her kind       words about this campaign." She added, "Being called ‘a star in our       party’ is an honor — but what means the most is the opportunity to serve       the people of Mobile. Together, we are going to build a Mobile that       works for ALL of us."              Following his win, Cheriogotis stated, "Thank you for every Mobilian who       put your trust in me and in this campaign." Drummond has served as the       Alabama House Democratic Caucus chair since 2014. Supporters noted her       loss was a missed chance for the city’s first woman mayor.              A PAC supporting Drummond circulated a flyer linking Cheriogotis to       national Republicans. In August’s first round, Drummond had led a       multi-candidate field. Drummond said, "I want to thank Mobile because we       gave a hell of a run." She added, "I want to thank each of you and I       certainly extend my congratulations to our new mayor, Spiro Cheriogotis."              Jessica Thompson covers U.S. politics & news for content partner Modern       Newsstand LLC.              https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/gop-candidate-defeats-ha       ris-endorsed-candidate/ss-AA1NTKgk              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
