It turns out to be a point for Baxter:

No, a standard AR-15 is technically not an assault rifle because it's
semi-automatic (one shot per trigger pull), while a true assault rifle
is selective-fire, capable of fully automatic (machine gun) fire, a
feature heavily restricted for civilians. The "AR" stands for ArmaLite
Rifle, not "assault rifle," and the term "assault weapon" is a political
label for semi-automatic rifles with certain cosmetic features, used to
   promote bans.

This is because in Call of Duty the AR-15 is automatic, so Baxter's
screed about video games not reflecting reality wins out in this case.
