Aside from ad blockers, I take an all-or-nothing approach       to personalized censorship. I'd like to think I'm strong enough to have       conversations with people who want me dead. I just need thicker skin or       more alcohol.              >> Getting into Mastodon and finding more people I can identify with, but       >> occasionally checking back on the Usenet boards I frequent out of       >> curiosity.       >       > I've looked at Mastodon but never tried it. I like the idea, a lot.              It's ok. Each instance is its own thing, more or less a silo, very       feudalist. All that is fine, but it can be confusing as to how much reach       each account or post has between instances. Some instances will defederate       or censor and may or may not tell people they're doing it. How much reach       each post has depends on more factors than Twitter/X because of the way       Mastodon does federation, and it often feels like shouting into the void.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
