   Compared with the options out there for long form discussions, I think   
   usenet works way, way better even before google shut down. I block   
   messages which are sent to more than 3 groups, and I use some political   
   groups for killfile harvesting, and the remainder is pretty good.   
      
   The only complaint is that in many groups the activity is quite low or   
   non-existant but the groups I have found I think make for a manageable   
   amount of messages.
