   Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis issued a warning to residents on   
   Wednesday after law enforcement shared a video on social media of a dog   
   that was abandoned and tied to a post ahead of Hurricane Milton.   
      
   While patrolling in Tampa, Florida, state troopers encountered a dog   
   Wednesday morning that had been tied up and left to fend for himself as   
   he stood in water that came up to his stomach.   
      
   In an X post, troopers shared the video and announced that they rescued   
   the dog and requested that pet owners not act in such a manner.   
      
      
   “FHP Troopers rescued a dog left tied to a pole on I-75 near Bruce B   
   Downs Blvd this morning. Do NOT do this to your pets please,” the   
   Florida Highway Patrol wrote.   
      
      
   The disturbing video immediately went viral, even getting the attention   
   of DeSantis, who commented on the post. He commended the troopers for   
   their actions and gave a warning to any residents who might be thinking   
   about abandoning their pets.   
      
     It is cruel for anyone to leave a dog tied to a post in the middle of   
   an oncoming storm. FL will hold anyone who mistreats pets accountable,”   
   DeSantis wrote.   
      
   During a press conference the same day, DeSantis was asked about the   
   dog’s condition. Before answering, he shared his disgust with the   
   reality that someone abandoned their dog in such a manner.
