   Only when it was of my own volition.  I recall that it took only a few   
   minutes under the tropical sun in the Peruvian Amazon where I   
   participated in a project to take sterile soil on an abandoned rubber   
   plantation and go through some tedious process to try and rejuvenate it   
   with the end goal of bringing back the rain forest that I understood why   
   the Europeans employed slave labor in that part of the world.  I decided   
   at that point in my life that if I were a Peruvian indigenous person, I   
   would have sided with Sendero Luminosa (Shining Path) against Alberto   
   Fujimoro and his supporters. I was thankful to God that my lot in life
