   When I decided to get my CCW in NY it took about 6 months of training as I was   
   a complete noob.   
   And it wasn't cheap, but it was worth the time and money. I did get a   
   substantial   
   discount on weapons though so that made up for part of it.   
   BTW my class was 50% women.
