   One should make it a rule to check a "club" venue for fire exits and   
   other escape routes before deciding to be part of a large group of   
   people who are inebriated and likely to behave recklessly.  A basement   
   or upper level venue with one exit is to be avoided at all costs.   
      
   I was in Germany in an old, walled village while visiting my son and   
   noticed that a hotel I had booked had only one exit and lots of people   
   smoking cigarettes in a dance hall in the hotel. The rooms on upper   
   floors had windows bricked up.  The place was a fire trap, so my wife   
   and two of our kids decided to find a different hotel and write off the   
   cost of not staying at the fire trap.
