The evil owners, most likely Eastern European immigrants themselves,
locked the doors to the fire escapes in some claimed effort to keep the
teenage girls they employed as virtual slaves from allegedly stealing
fabric and thread from the sweat shop where they slaved away. It's a
stretch for you to claim that blocking the exits was a conservative
position, politically speaking. The owners of the Triangle Shirtwaist
factory were probably ancestors of Bernie Sanders or Chuck Shumer and
supporters of the Bolsheviks in Russia and the people wanting stricter
fire codes were persons like Teddy Roosevelt and the families of the
girls working in the garment factories. It wasn't a liberal vs
conservative issue, but, rather, an issue of decency and human rights.
