From: daviderl31@yahoo.com              http://www.sequentialtart.com/article.php?id=2725              Phenomenal Women: Felicia Day and Amber Benson              By Patti Martinson       March 23, 2015              As I write this, the Academy Awards are about to be given out. This year,       there are a lot of complaints about the lack of diversity in media,       particularly film. This issue has been a longstanding once since the       existence of film. While things seem to be changing for the better on TV,       films still lag behind.              What isn't lagging is that now, more than ever, opportunities abound for       talented women to forge their own path, and they don't limit themselves to       just one thing.                     Felicia Day and Amber Benson are great examples of women who forge new paths       for themselves in a variety of ways, writing, acting, singing, gaming,       producing, and directing. They demonstrate how one can survive and thrive on       TV, film and on the web.              I first ran across Felicia Day in 2003, when she played Vi, one of the many       potentials in the final season of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and one of the       few potentials who survived the final battle. Her character didn't impress       me much at the time, but I took notice when she played the female lead in       Doctor Horrible's Sing Along Blog. Around that time I also discovered she       wrote, directed and acted in her own webseries, The Guild, about a group of       gamers in an MMORPG who meet up in real life.              I followed her acting career through TV shows such as Eureka and in       Supernatural, but a quick glance shows she is involved in so much more and       the more I saw of her accomplishments the more I was impressed by her. Not       content with sitting around waiting for opportunities, she created so many       of her own -- and she hasn't even hit 40 yet!                     Amber Benson is another actress that I first ran across in Buffy the Vampire       Slayer. Playing Tara Maclay, she was one of my favorite characters on that       series and I, like many fans, was gutted when she was randomly killed by       evil nerd, Warren. I followed Amber's career in film, starting with her       writing, directing and starring in the movie Chance.              Not only that, she is the author of a book series on the daughter of the       Grim Reaper. She was the creator of the web phenomenon Ghosts of Albion.       While her oeuvre is more towards television and movies, she, like Day, has       extensive experience in being a creator in different media and has yet to       hit 40 as well!              I have enjoyed her performances in her movies and the Ghosts of Albion was a       revelation to me -- that you could create something that good and that fun,       yet difficult to concisely describe. It was a revelation to me on how that       such projects were possible on the internet and it also expanded to the       printed media.              In thinking of these remarkable women, I can't help but feel that the       possibilities are truly endless for women.                     Felicia's Web Site - http://feliciaday.com/              Amber's Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/amberbensonwrotethis                     http://daviderl.com/ .       http://daviderl31.blogspot.com/              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
