   Joss Whedon sued by writer seeking $10 million in damages in copyright   
   lawsuit over 2012 horror film The Cabin In The Woods   
      
   Joss Whedon has been sued by a writer who alleges he stole the idea for the   
   2012 horror movie The Cabin In The Woods.   
      
   The lawsuit was filed on Monday in federal court in California and named   
   50-year-old Whedon and the film's co-writer and director Drew Goddard as   
   defendants, according to an article on Tuesday by The Hollywood Reporter.   
      
   The complaint by Peter Gallagher claimed that Whedon and Goddard took the   
   idea for their meta-horror movie from his 2006 novel 'The Little White Trip:   
   A Night In The Pines.'   
      
   Gallagher claimed copyright infringement in his lawsuit and was seeking $10   
   million in damages. The lawsuit was based on the similar premises in the   
   works, including the plot centering around a group of young people   
   terrorized at a cabin by manipulators filming a horror show.   
      
   Gallagher also alleged similarities between the characters' names and   
   personalities.   
      
   The lawsuit detailed how Gallagher self-published the novel and 'began   
   grassroots efforts' to sell it on the Venice Beach boardwalk and at Santa   
   Monica's Third Street Promenade outdoor mall. '[The defendants] currently   
   reside and operate out of Santa Monica, California, a short distance from   
   where the Book was sold,' the lawsuit claimed. The lawsuit also listed   
   Lionsgate and Whedon's Mutant Enemy production company as defendants.
