From: daviderl31@yahoo.com              http://decider.com/2015/05/19/buffy-the-vampire-slayer-becoming/              TODAY IN TV HISTORY: BUFFY KILLED HER BOYFRIEND TO SAVE THE WORLD              By Joe Reid                     Of all the great things about television, the greatest is that it’s on every       single day. TV history is being made, day in and day out, in ways big and       small. In an effort to better appreciate this history, we’re taking a look       back, every day, at one particular TV milestone.              IMPORTANT DATE IN TV HISTORY:       May 19, 1998       Buffy the Vampire Slayer, “Becoming, Part 2″ (Season 2, Episode 22)                     WHY IT’S IMPORTANT:       The influence of Buffy the Vampire Slayer has been felt across all       television in the 15 years since it aired. Not just Joss Whedon and the       myriad other alumni who graduated from its ranks, but the style, the themes,       the way that teen drama and supernatural drama were elevated to a level of       respect they hadn’t been afforded before. And with its second-season finale,       the two-part “Becoming,” Buffy delivered its finest episode.              As was the custom on the show, the finale was the culmination of an entire       season’s worth of story, starting with when Buffy lost her virginity to       Angel, which caused him to lose the soul that was gypsy-cursed onto him,       leading to a bloody rampage across town by the now-monstrous Angelus.              Of course, it was more than just that one thread, and the cumulative impact       of “Becoming, Part 2″ has to do with all the threads coming together:       Willow       taking her first steps towards spell-casting, from her hospital bed of all       places; Giles and his grief over Jenny Calendar; Xander trying to balance       his desire for vengeance with sensitivity to Buffy (monster or not, it’s       still her boyfriend she has to kill) and kind of failing spectacularly at       it; and especially the wrenching scene where Buffy has to tell her mother       the truth: she’s a slayer.              But the reason why this episode is an all-time classic is the way it ends.       Buffy and Angel finally fight, and it’s a doozy. (“No weapons, no friends,       no hope. Take all that away, and what’s left?" “Me.”) And at the moment       she       gets him on the ropes … Willow’s spell works. Angel’s soul is restored.       But       it’s too late. Demonic vortexes conjured to swallow the world can be tricky       that way.              The final five minutes, where Angel’s soul returns and Buffy realizes       exactly what she still has to do are Buffy at its very best, and certainly       most devastating.               [photos and videos]              http://daviderl.com/SarahMichelleGellar.html .       http://daviderl31.blogspot.com/              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
