   Happy Birthday! Joss Whedon Turns 51 Today   
      
   Joss Whedon is one of the most recognizable names in the science fiction and   
   comic book industries, masterminding a number of each genre’s most respected   
   hits. Of course, every fan remembers Whedon’s directorial role in Marvel’s   
   The Avengers. Whedon’s efforts impressed Marvel so much, that the studio   
   made him the cinematic universe’s godfather throughout their Phase Two   
   entries. Whedon filled that role by providing creative consultation,   
   re-writing scripts, launching Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. television   
   series, and directing this year's Avengers: Age of Ultron.   
      
   As Whedon moves to new work outside the Marvel Universe, it’s important to   
   remember his work before the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Whedon is also the   
   creator of fan-favorite series including Firefly, Buffy The Vampire Slayer,   
   and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. He also wrote 24 issues (and a   
   giant-sized special) of Marvel’s Astonishing X-Men comic book series, a run   
   that many critics call one of the franchise’s best.   
      
   Born in New York City, Whedon turns 51 today. Happy Birthday, Joss Whedon!
