|    Lois Duncan: "I Know What You Did Last S    |

From: madlove@arkham.dc              Book became one of SMG's films. I read several of her books while       growing up.              http://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/19/books/lois-duncan-82-dies-auth       r-knew-what-you-did-last-summer.html              Lois Duncan, whose suspenseful young adult novels inspired the slasher       movie “I Know What You Did Last Summer” and who later wrote about the       unsolved murder of her daughter, died on Wednesday at her home in       Bradenton, Fla. She was 82.              Her husband, Don Arquette, confirmed her death but did not give a cause.              Ms. Duncan’s books were practically a rite of passage for many young       readers. They featured universal adolescent themes, like alienation and       a hunger for acceptance, and thrust protagonists into chilling       situations, often with supernatural elements.              Her titles included “Stranger With My Face,” “Down a Dark Hall” and       “Killing Mr. Griffin,” appearing before young adult fiction became a       major genre.              “I started writing for young adults because I was one,” Ms. Duncan told       The Sarasota Herald-Tribune in 2005.              Though her books had their share of violence, Ms. Duncan said she was       “utterly horrified” when she saw the film adaptation of “I Know What You       Did Last Summer,” which was released in 1997 and starred Jennifer Love       Hewitt and Sarah Michelle Gellar.              The movie turned her novel, about a group of teenagers desperately       trying to conceal an accidental killing, into a horror tale in which the       same teenagers are systematically dispatched by their hook-wielding victim.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
