|    Why A Buffy The Vampire Slayer Reboot Sh    |

From: daviderl31@yahoo.com              http://whatculture.com/tv/why-a-buffy-the-vampire-slayer-reboot-       hould-never-happen              Why A Buffy The Vampire Slayer Reboot Should NEVER Happen              In every generation...              Coming back from the dead is kinda Buffy's thing.              When The Master bit her and left her to drown, she was resuscitated by       Xander. When she jumped to her death to close the portals between worlds,       she was brought back by Willow. When the show was ended after seven seasons,       it was eventually rebooted by Fox.              Wait, what was the last one?              Ok, so a reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer hasn't happened yet, but it is       being talked about. Fox's TV Group Chair, Gary Newman, recently spoke about       the potential of bringing the show back (via Variety):              “I think if you look in our library, ‘Buffy’ is probably the most ripe       show       we have for bringing back. It’s something we talk about frequently, and Joss       Whedon is really one of the greatest creators we ever worked with. When Joss       decides it’s time, we’ll do it. And until Joss decides it’s time, it       won’t       happen.”               [snip]              Buffy recently turned 21, meaning it's now old enough to head off to the       Bronze and drink all the Black Frost in sight. And yet despite the years,       the series' appeal has never worn off. Sure, not all of the effects are       great, but it remains engaging, entertaining, hilarious, and smart       television that plays well to both new audiences and those after a nostalgic       re-watch.              Part of its success - and why a reboot might not work - is that the show is       extremely rooted in the 1990s, from its references to its fashion-sense.       That's a massive part of its charm, and while a new series could update the       setting, something would be lost in the translation. At the same time,       though, the show was ahead of its time as much as it was of it, which       renders a new version is pointless.               [snip]              There are other shows that can be made about teenagers and demons, but they       don't need to bear the Buffy name. The show saved the world. A lot. Now Fox       needs to be prepared to let it rest in peace.               [to read the snipped out parts, click on the link]                     David              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
