From: daviderl31@yahoo.com              https://screenrant.com/buffy-vampire-slayer-giles-wisest-quotes/                     Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Giles 10 Wisest Quotes              Giles is the father figure of the Scooby Gang in Buffy the Vampire Slayer -       and it's easy to see why, with wise lines like these.              BY ROSE MOORE                     Rupert Giles is possibly one of the most underrated characters in Buffy The       Vampire Slayer, although his wise Watcher-ways kept the Scooby gang alive       more often than not. He was the one who trained Buffy, both physically and       mentally, who had all the lore they could possibly need to deal with any       possible threat, who was able to keep Buffy focused on her role as Slayer,       and who was (later) the purveyor of all things magical for Sunnydale.              On top of all that, Giles is also the wise father-figure of the group. He's       the one that they all turn to with their problems, their fears, and their       hopes, and he's usually got something incredible to say to reassure them.       Sometimes, his wisdom comes with a side-helping of sarcasm, but it's always       worth remembering in times of trouble.                     10              He Will, However, Get Over It              'Testosterone is a great equalizer. It turns all men into morons. He will,       however, get over it'              Giles often gets sassy when it comes to dealing with the more teenage side       of his charges' troubles. He's there to fight the evil of the world, not       advise on boy (and girl) problems! However, he's got the kind of perspective       that any teen could use - including this line about male drama. There's more       to this quote than just a 'silly men' perspective, though. This is one of       that many times that Giles teaches the most important lesson - that this       shall pass, and everyone involved will get over it.                     9              All You Will Get From Me Is My Support              'But if it’s guilt you’re looking for, Buffy, I’m not your man. All you       will       get from me is my support. And my respect.'              When Buffy and Angel finally... committed physically to each other... it had       the worst possible consequences, turning Angel back to Angelus and putting       everyone in danger. Buffy is, unsurprisingly, beating herself up about it,       but Giles refuses to pile on. He tells her that they were in love, and that       she had no way of knowing what would happen, and that all he was going to do       was support her.                     8              You Have No Respect For Me, Or The Job I Perform              'You should have told me he was alive. You didn't. You have no respect for       me, or the job I perform.'              On the opposite end of the spectrum from the last quote, one that comes       later, when Angel has been returned and Buffy has been hiding it.              This time, Giles knows that treating her with the kind of gentleness that he       does above isn't the right move, and that it's time to stand up for himself.       He reminds her that Angel (as Angelus) tortured him, and that at the very       least, he deserved to know. This quote is a great reminder to be calm when       furious, but also to think of others, and to keep respect foremost.                     7              To Forgive Is An Act Of Compassion              'To forgive is an act of compassion, Buffy. It’s-it’s… it’s not done       because       people deserve it. It’s done because they need it'              In one episode, the gang are dealing with a ghostly presence, who keeps       acting out a murder he committed in a passion, time and time again (but       possessing, and hurting, living people to do it). While Buffy is furious,       Giles urges her to compassion and care, reminding her that forgiveness isn't       something that is done because it's deserved, but because it is necessary.       It's the kind of line that will stick with the viewer forever.                     6              No, It’s Just Tacky              Xander: “Who’s a little fear demon? Come on. Who’s the little fear       demon?”              Giles: “Don’t taunt him, Xander.”              Xander: “Why? Can he hurt me?”              Giles: “No, it’s just tacky.”              In one of the funniest showdowns of the series, the gang are dealing with an       accidentally-summoned fear demon... who seems terrifying in the lore - until       they realize that he is about two inches tall! Suddenly, this is the easiest       demon that anyone has had to face, prompting Xander to start taunting it.       Enter Giles with the wisdom once more, reminding us that it's really not       appropriate to be picking on things that are so much weaker, just because       they can't fight back.                     5              The Good Guys Are Always Stalwart And True              'Yes. It’s terribly simple. The good guys are always stalwart and true. The       bad guys are easily distinguished by their pointy horns or black hats, and,       uh, we always defeat them and save the day. No one ever dies and… everybody       lives happily ever after.'              When Buffy is struggling, she asks Giles to lie to her, to just tell her       that everything would be easy and ok - and this is some of the best wisdom       that he comes up with, although he doesn't believe it. By telling her       everything that he knows she wants to hear, he reminds everyone that life       just isn't simple, that it's not divided into good guys and bad guys and       easy fights.                     4              You Should Never Be Cowed By Authority              'I appreciate your thoughts on the matter. In fact I encourage you to always       challenge me when you feel it's appropriate. You should never be cowed by       authority. Except, of course, in this instance when I am clearly right and       you are clearly wrong.'              This may be one of the best Giles moments in the show, as it combines true       wisdom and hilarity at the same time - as Giles reminds the gang that it's       important to challenge authority, think for yourselves, and not simply       follow along with what you are told. And then tells them that in this case,       though, to ignore all of that and do as they are told! It's a perfect Giles       moment.                     3              There's No Need To Be Negative              'Xander, just because this is never going to work, there's no need to be       negative.'              Throughout the series, the gang are up against impossible odds on a regular       basis - and yet, they always manage to pull through, often using completely       mad plans. And here, Giles is just reminding them that even though it seems       like an idea may be flat-out insane, being negative about it isn't going to       do anything to help.                     2       We All Are Who We Are              'In the end, we all are who we are, no matter how much we may appear to have       changed.'              Here, Giles is doing what he does best - reassuring someone that no matter       what happens, and how much things seem to change, the core of who someone is       doesn't have to. After all, the gang go through a huge number of changes              [continued in next message]              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
