   Buffy has been willing to kill people in immediate defense of   
   herself or others since at least "The Pack" (yes, she absolutely   
   did throw the hyena keeper into the hyena pit on purpose).  She   
   does tend to have a fairly restrictive definition of "immediate   
   defense".
