   The director's cut of Donnie Darko isn't as good as the theatrical   
   cut. It's about half an hour longer, but most added scenes should   
   never have been reinstated, they slow the film down. But a couple of   
   new scenes should have been in the film all along.   
      
   Also, new effects and visual transitions have been added that were   
   supposedly to make the director's intentions more clear, but they turn   
   out to be more confusing. So it makes the film a bit more jumbled. In   
   the commentary track he explains his reasons for the changes very   
   well, but that doesn't stop the film from being worse.
