   Well it's probably the result of said America mis-identifying an English   
   accent, JUST ONCE by innocent mistake, in front of a Scottish/Welsh/N.   
   Irish/Irish/Australian/Kiwi/South African/etc. person!   
      
   Said Scottish/Welsh/N. Irish/Irish/Australian/Kiwi/South African/etc.   
   companion then probably put the holy fear of god and rage into them to   
   never again so brazenly declare others' accent "English".   
      
      
   That's my best guess.
