479c4297       From: mxg77@po.cwru.edu       Copy: mxg77@cwru.edu              Well, not bad, but not super - the mob story was fine, and I'd like to       have seen more of Lisa's. Guest appearance by Steve Carell also fine       (if a little dominant). Episode itself very short - unless I added it       up wrong it's a little below syndication length. Couch gag was pretty       good.                     DYN:       ...Fat Tony on this episode's billboard (and in the A story)?       ...the mob for some reason is meeting at Luigi's now (not associated       with them despite the name) rather than their basement social club?              Previous episode stuff       3F05: Muumuu Homer in opening       3F10: Pin Pals and Holy Rollers seen again (also, incidentally, this       was the episode dedicated to Doris Grau)       LABF05: The Parson is on the Holy Rollers now       3F03: Lisa specifically mentions her vegetarian conversation with Paul       McCartney       5F07: Alex Trebek returns (see below)              Lunchlady Doris update       Ugh, ugh. Now she gets a whole scene. She said the union wouldn't let       her talk to a student this long; if only it didn't let her talk AT       ALL!       HABF15, JABF02, KABF06, LABF08, MABF12, NABF11, NABF13, NABF15,       NABF16, PABF06, PABF15, PABF19                     Meta       -Blackboard gag says Bart doesn't know what state he's in       -Lisa talks directly to the camera, expecting bloggers will weigh in       on whether her grasshopper raising makes her a farmer or a rancher       -Homer says he never thought Homer Simpson would be part of the day of       the locust; in that book/movie, there is a character with his name. (I       know this only from a capsule note in 3F13, when Donald Sutherland       guest starred, since he played the Homer character in the movie.)              Goof       -Why call it an insectivore society when they're also eating not only       spiders (a common mistake) but also worms??       -An ear piercing gun wouldn't work that way - you need something       behind the ear to hold the backing.              The Godfather       -Accountant Dan seems to be missing the idea of the horse head scene -       it's not just to frighten someone (with a mob-provided horse), but to       exact revenge on the target by killing his *own* prized horse (and       then some)!       -Act 4 opens with a cross-cutting scene of assassination (attempts)       and upstanding citizenship and so forth; on Jeopardy this week, that       scene (from the movie, not this episode) was actually used as an       example of the technique, so it's interesting that Jeopardy (with       returning guest Trebek) was on in one of the parts.              Finally       I misheard the line at first and thought we were watching a show about       "AFI's 100 greatest movie screens" (not screams); while at least       "screams" was relevant, I wouldn't have been surprised at "screens",       with the joke being that they'd run out of things to rate.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
