   I think he's implying that "a real fan" would spend so much time and   
   energy on "their favorite show" that they'd have no time for some other   
   show.   
      
   It takes time to go through each episode in slow motion and grab all the   
   details.  He may not have even been a fan at the beginning, so he has to   
   go back and start from the beginning.  A real fan has to have two jobs,   
   the extra to pay for all the show-related items, which also require upkeep   
   like dusting.  A real fan spends all his idle time looking over the   
   synopsises of old shows, so he's ready to point out exactly when and where   
   something happened when someone asks.
