From: mxg77@po.cwru.edu              Not too shabby. We've seen some classic midlife crisis episodes before (5F21,       The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace, comes to mind), but this was pretty fresh.       Lisa's honor code B story was good, though I have to assume actually turning       cheaters in is part of        the system (and don't see how getting Bart to confess avoids proving that       cheating happened). The only things that really annoyed me were the ludicrous       physics at the end (see also the balloon basket just last week), and of course       the continued episode        brevity combined with the entirely superfluous (and unless I am missing       something, downright mystifying) last "act".              DYN:       ...more changes in the opening sequence (the missing chorus/targeting, Homer       yelling as the car hits him)?       ...Bart and Milhouse now need a play date to hang out like they always do, and       Milhouse needs a ride?       ...even Martin, apparently, is among those cheating (even if his paper was       copied, presumably he'd have to have allowed its use)?       ...Wendell's last name is Borton (is this new), and Lewis has no last name?       ...Bart misspelled his name on some of his tests?              Previous episode stuff       8F18 (and others): Llewelyn Sinclair (Jon Lovitz) returns       7G01: voice legend June Foray actually guest starred on the very first       (produced) Simpsons episode (and 4F12 featured an ersatz June as the voice of       Itchy & Scratchy)              Meta: the June Foray stuff (along with the comparison to Rocky the Squirrel,       whose middle initial J - along with Bullwinkle's - was the inspiration for       Homer's own long-unexplained J)              Oh, and it was odd that Marge says Homer's had the same car, house, and job       for 20 years, when a meta-joke would make it about 25 and in-universe it's       supposed to be about 10.                     Speaking of incredibly long-running series       In case it's not clear, the "You Only Live Once" song is a parody of the Bond       movie theme "You Only Live Twice", originally sung by Nancy Sinatra (whose       voice was matched pretty well!). That was the 5th movie, by the way, so it       goes back a ways. Homer's        wails at Moe's as the first sequence ends are set to the tune of the song's       instrumental opening.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
