   Oh absolutely. I largely blame word processors with automatic "smart quotes",   
   for assuming a ' at the start of a word should always be starting a quotation,   
   but stuff like 'em and 'twas and '13 - things that are leaving letters or   
   digits off the start -    
   need an apostrophe, just like contractions or possessives in the middle or end   
   of a word.
