   I missed that bit.  But my first printer, a dot-matrix in the fall of   
   1982, didn't do descenders.  So any lowercase was shifted up a bit so it   
   could all fit in.  It was a horrible printer, really slow, really noisy   
   and no where near "near letter quality".  But at $500, it was about as   
   cheap as I could get in Canada that year.
