From: mxg77@po.cwru.edu              Probably the feel-good episode of the year. Interesting the way Homer becomes       actually competent and instills pride in his family and friends when classic       rock (or barbershop or what-have-you) is involved, as we've seen a handful of       times over the years.        A fairly straightforward episode with some nice little (and subtle) touches,       though I'm a little surprised Lisa and Homer didn't jam together even once       (especially since she loves to do so with anyone who'll have her).                     DYN:       ...Manjula is the only one of the wives not to talk (Jan Hooks died a few       weeks ago but I wonder if she had lines that were subsequently cut or what)?       ...the couch gag (everyone bumps into each other while absorbed in phones) is       somewhat pertinent to one part of the episode itself (Covercraft plays at the       "Don't Text and Drive" dance)?       ...Homer can easily name all of Apu's children?       ...the newest thing the kids these days don't know about is apparently game       shows?       ...the horrified look the kids have when Marge is dancing at the final concert       (a fun blink-and-you-miss-it thing)?              Previous episode stuff       8F15: The music store guy's assessment of Homer's fingers, as how suitable       they were to different instruments, reminiscent of Lisa's "stubby fingers"       verdict (which were noted to have been inherited from Homer)       9F21: Apu has a Be Sharps photo in his dressing room, though it's never       referred to; he finally gets to use his real name as well       4F04: Kirk mentions he's had some experience singing, though we never get to       hear it here (I admit I was hoping, a little, for a quick rock adaptation of       "Can I Borrow a Feeling?")                     For Don       Brick Like Me (RABF21) aired for the third time tonight, though in the       east/Cleveland anyway where football ran long it was joined in progress at       about 7:03, following a very odd opening (adapted from NABF21's, or possibly       identical to it, I don't have        my notes handy; the original RABF21 had clouds-only, so...). Like the second       airing in July, it used a slightly shorter ending, starting the credits over       the post-execs scene and saving about 20 seconds that way. Not surprising, as       it was one of the few        maxed-out-21:50-long episodes we've had recently.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
