From: mxg77@po.cwru.edu              Ooh, it's been a while since a fat episode. Not too shabby overall despite a       few more out-there gags we could've done without, and I enjoyed the little       Lisa/Bart subplot. There aren't many characters to learn the history of       anymore, but the Hans Moleman        as former mayor bit was a nice touch. I was also happy to see it approaching a       normal length, and what luck, it looks like the writers have figured out how       to have Lunchlady Doris prominently shown without a terrible impression of her       voice.              DYN:       ...the undeleting of a website is apparently an "outdated concept"?       ...the anthems are titled simply "Old Springfield Anthem" (somewhat       anachronistically and as opposed to, say, "Only Springfield") and "New       Springfield Anthem"?              Previous episode references (yes, explicit references more or less)       7F24: "Lisa it's your birthday" song mentioned and oddness of episode's plot       deconstructed       2F16/2F20: Unused lyrics for anthem mention the town where Mr. Burns was shot       KABF04: "Back to the Future" phone holding pose done again       4F07: New anthem mentions Springfield only had a hurricane once       7F01: Blinky returns in anthem's debut (on a road sign)       9F18: Whacking Day practices mentioned in anthem       GABF13: Listing of the town's features and individuals in new anthem       reminiscent of "I'm Talkin' Springfield"       3F05: One of Homer's future body shapes is the "king-size" one with the       muu-muu and hat (his future wardrobe doesn't otherwise tend to change style       either)              Springfield doesn't have an anthem       How much can a deleted scene from The Movie whose audio is still used in the       credits be considered canon? I'd say "fairly"; so shouldn't they stick with       the idea that Springfield hasn't had an anthem until now? It wouldn't affect       the plot if Lisa and        Bart composed one to fill the gap instead of to replace one, and there could       even still be a young Mayor Moleman shirking his duty or something. Seems       careless to me.              Final fun fact       If you count the (one-time) dedication to Jan Hooks in SABF19 as special       credits, this is the first episode this (air) season to use plain old regular       credits.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
