I brought it up because while it was hardly a minor event, relatively few
people died, despite the number of passengers being quite large.

And, "Seinfeld" had an episode where George is trying to get an apartment,
and the committee is deciding, when someone who was a "survivor of the
Andrea Doria" comes along. "I have no chance, I can't compete with a
   disaster like that'.

I can't believe it will be 60 years ago next year. I'm only three years
younger than you, sixty is still in the future, but wow, it won't be long
now. Hot diggity, I may be able to get a senior's discount in five years.
I was waiting till I turned 55, because one chain here offered a discount
once you were over 55 (and a few times, the cashier gave me the flyer for
the upcoming sale), but they closed down two years ago, so Target could
move to Canada. And now Target has closed down, less than a year and a
   half after the stores opened.
