Reverend Lovejoy is a       regular character, and he isn't out sleuthing. The characters to go       church. The kids debate a Rabbi. There are references to Hinduism and       Buddhism and even Catholicism. The church has twice been damaged, and       then repaired. The people are about average in their everyday lives when       it relates to religion, but that's true everywhere.              I don't know what the fuss is, the only times I've been to a church       service were a handful of times before I was ten, and that was because my       sisters thought we should go. I've been in churches lots of times, for       book and rummage sales, and other events, and then when we walked to New       York City in 1982 (the time Bernie Sanders as mayor of Burlington Vermont       met us on the steps of city hall), most nights there was a potluck dinner       at a church, and many a night we stayed at a church. I even stayed with       some Sisters of Mercy nuns in Burlington Vermont.              But religion was nver in my life, which is kind of interesting       consideringb how important it was to my great, great great grandfather       (even though he lived in sin with my great, great, great grandmother for       about 12 years starting in 1812), and my great, great grandfather was a       minister, the John Black Memorial Church in Winnipeg Manitoba is named       after him.               Michael              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
