From: mxg77@po.cwru.edu              I don't see a question mark in the episode listings, but there has to be one,       right? Right?? Anyway, this was wildly up and down. Setting the first five       minutes entirely in the past was a bold move I thought had potential; Homer's       debilitating trauma        upon recalling this traumatic childhood event seemed like CABF21 (The Blunder       Years) but worse; the attempt to track the bots down still seemed like a nice       gesture; the fanwank over JJ Abrams and getting into obsessive nerd culture       straightforwardly was        annoying; but then the actual ending and resolution seemed like it had       something useful to say (and showed a little more satire of crazy fandoms). By       the way, consistency with contexts of characters' pasts is always going to be       hard when the characters        don't age, but it seems as if the series HAD been doing OK with this - compare       high school age Homer in the 70s in season 2 and in the 90s in season 19 - but       teenage Homer is still from the 90s now? It feels really weird to note that it       should be 00s,        but it should, even if that wasn't the heyday of the animatronic pizza joint       for kids.              DYN:       ...this, like several recent episodes, is rated TV-14 for what is to me no       clear reason? (All the cocaine?)       ...the protesters seem to WANT creepy-design Sonic and the original BVS? Do       they feel those are the original unsullied visions, or are they just being       contrarian?              Gone but somewhat forgotten       These dedications are really racking up! Tonight's was to David Richardson, a       name I did not recognize, but apparently supervising producer for the first       half of season 5 (and writer of the second half's Homer Loves Flanders), who       died back in January.        Well, he certainly contributed to the golden age of this show. (I'm not sure       if this dedication was postponed or the news just didn't get around rapidly.)              Knock knock. Who's there? Cargo. Cargo who? Car go beep beep and run over time       slot!       The Nascar race was clearly over when I checked in on it several minutes       before 7, but that still didn't stop all the ads and brief commentary from       running till about 7:05. The whole schedule here got shifted, with Simpsons       running from 8:06 to 8:36.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
