From: garvey@simpsonsarchive.com              Both plots started out promising with novel stories derived from today's world       of tech, and then both nosedived at the end. The "Boblox" stuff actually did       not feel gimmicky or stale, and that was refreshing. In some other context,       the climax with        Skinner (or another character in another work) almost going a step too far in       the battle could have been poignant, as would his backing down, but it just       came out of nowhere here and didn't fit. It's more silly than anything but the       end of the Maggie        plot fell flat as well, especially for something that could have stayed       subtler and let the device of Maggie's ability to communicate actually stick       around rather than be instantly forgotten as I'm sure it will be. Oh well.              This episode started with a narrated content warning, which is rare for this       show (even as TV-14 episodes have become more common). Is that for all the       bleeped swearing (and "realistic" video game violence) in the first minute or       so?              The MMORPG in this episode used a TON of sound effects and even some music       cues from the original Super Mario Bros. game, and I wonder why. (In days gone       by, when people might actually be playing a game of that age, the audio in       movies and TV was almost        always from the abysmal Atari version of Pac-Man, so it's interesting that now       SMB gets to be an audio source.)              Whatever the end credits spoofed, I have no idea. Help?              Previous episode stuff       AABF03: Colecos at SES                     From the department of pointlessness       Naturally the 4:00 football game ran long here, ending some time around 7:15       or 7:20 (I wasn't paying very close attention). In recent months, as nice as       it's been for postgame coverage to be short in these cases, there have been       some days they might as        well have rounded out the half hour. In particular, this fall, UABF04 and       UABF11 had third airings with only about 3 minutes of actual plot once they       were joined in progress. Tonight, bizarrely, after the typical abridged NABF21       opening and joining-in-       progress announcement (and no additional ads), the second airing of UABF16       scheduled for 7:00 resumed at 7:26 with just over ONE MINUTE to go in act 3.       (Then commercials, then credits, which did have extra business, it's true.)       Why bother?!              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
