After watching it, I am half-hoping maybe they are considering this a
"pilot" for advancing the age of the characters by a few years. One thing
I noticed in this episode that was different from other age-advancing
episodes was how they aged Milhouse. He is normally still short but has
facial hair or something. In this episode he was tall and almost looked
like he could have been drawn by someone else (i.e. like some of the guest
   couch gag artists).

I got a kick out of that. ;)

I also wondered what was wrong with Sarah Wiggum's voice.
