I have never spoken to Ron Paul and I don't even know who he is. My
disinterest is such that I haven't even bothered at all to find out anything
about him. Other than posts by Kenny and your posts (Surly Curmudgeon?
Nice!), his name hasn't figured in my life.

Based on what you've said, he sounds OK to me.

I will do just that. If nothing else, I'll at least know what it says. My
head is so full of interesting facts and figures that a bit more won't hurt!

He would have been voted out in 2001 except for the fact that he was in
Washington when the attacks happened. He somehow became the "people's poet"
or somethingorother, and the Aussies inexplicably rallied around him.

That's a sad fact. While most Australians don't care a toss about someone's
racial heritage, there are many who choose to divide our population on
racial lines. Except for extreme cases, it's usually nothing more than a
bit of name-calling. I, for instance, have no problem referring to someone
from India as a "curry muncher". On the flip-side, I'm more likely to
befriend someone from India on the basis that we have a common interest -
cricket! That's just the way it is.

Thanks for your frank and balanced response, Curly. You probably thought I
was a complete dickhead and maybe still do. I'm just me, like it or lump
it! Despite my lack of a hat, I occasionally talk out of it. I definitely
have an arse, and it gets a bit of air-time on occasions too. Not on this
   occasion though...
