My cat sleeps right on my bed with me every night, and has been doing so for
   the
last 15 years. I have no reason to mistrust her. In fact, when I decide to go
   to
bed for the night, I occasionally call my cat's name so she'll come to me, and
she always does. I like to pet her for a while before I go to sleep.

I have occasionally fallen asleep in a reclining chair, and woke up to find my
cat comfortably resting in my lap. She actually climbs in my lap without even
   waking me up.

Do you have any hard statistics you can cite of how many people are killed in
their sleep by cats each year? I'd be very surprised if the number was above
   zero.

Who knows cats better? Someone who has lived with a cat for 15 years, or
   someone
who has spent very little time with cats?
